Gary Woodland an American golfer, shared with the golf world on Wednesday (August 30) the shocking news that he must undergo brain surgery to remove a lesion.
Gary Woodland Early life and Age
Woodland was born in 21, May 1984 in Topeka, Kansas. He is 39 years. After High school He attended Washburn University on a scholarship to play basketball. But golf was his thing, and after just one year, he transferred to the University of Kansas on a golf scholarship. Woodland had a successful college golf career, winning four tournaments before turning professional in 2007.

Gary Woodland played in various tournaments on the Nationwide Tour in 2007 and 2008. At the end of the 2008 season, he entered the Qualifying school for the PGA Tour, and finished in a tie for 11th, which earned him a full card to play on the PGA Tour in 2009. However, he struggled for form in his debut season, making just eight cuts in 18 appearances before a shoulder injury cut his golfing year short in July the same year.
In 2010 he had to return to the Nationwide Tour, with some participation in the PGA Tour and the Korn Ferry Tour. Once again, he entered the season-ending qualifying school, and again he finished T-11, to secure a return to full PGA Tour status. Woodland’s second tournament of 2011 seemed to be the beginning of his consolidation at the highest level., where he and Jhonattan Vegas finished tied for first place at 27-under-par; Vegas edged out Woodland in a playoff for the title. This was his first top-10 finish on either of the two main tours. His excellent performance in that season earned him a call-up to represent the United States in the OMEGA Mission Hills World Cup Where he won the tournament.
He has been a regular player for PGA tour since 2011. He’s known for his four tournament wins including the aforementioned 2011 Transitions Championship. He won again in 2013 (Reno-Tahoe Open). Again in 2018 He won Waste Management Phoenix Open
A year later, he got the main result of his career so far winning the 2019 U.S. Open.
The 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons were not very successful for Woodland, as he was cut in almost half of the tournaments he participated in but in the recently concluded season 2022-23, Woodland played 24 tournaments. He made the cut in 18 of them, with two Top 10s and four Top 25s as his best results.
Woodland closed the season ranked 73rd in the Official World Golf Ranking.
Gary Woodland Marriage
Gary woodland got married to Gabby Woodland who’s formerly known as Gabby Granado in 2016 in a beach wedding in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Sadly, just a year after their wedding, the couple were hit by a tragedy after they lost one of their twins in utero. The other twin, Jaxson, was born prematurely, but has gone from strength to strength over the last few years.
Two years later, in 2019, not only did Gary claim his first career Major title at Pebble Beach in the US Open, but the family also welcomed twin girls Maddox and Lennox into the world as well.
Gary Woodland to undergo Brain Surgery
On 30, August 31, 2023 Gary Woodland announced that he would be undergoing Surgery to remove a Brain Lesion scheduled for 18,september 2023. in an Instagram post shared on Wednesday morning Woodland stated that he was actually diagnosed with the ailment a few months ago though he had initially tried to treat it with medication.
However, he says after talking it over with docs recently, he’s now decided to go undergo the surgery to remedy the problem.
“We’ve made the decision that surgery to remove the lesion is the best course of action,” Woodland stated
“I’m in good spirits,” he added, “with my family and team by my side and so thankful for the love and support of everyone.”
