Kim Kardashian is no stranger to making headlines, but her latest revelation about her short-lived marriage to Kris Humphries has sparked a fresh wave of interest. During a recent episode of The Kardashians, the reality TV star and business mogul opened up about the details of her engagement ring from Humphries, revealing that her ex-husband only paid for a fraction of the ring’s cost — and even demanded its return after their divorce.
As she chatted with her sister Khloé Kardashian, Kim said, “I wonder what my next ring shape will be — on my last and final hoorah,” before revisiting the details of each of her three engagement rings.
“Number one was a cushion cut, 14-karat,” she shared, referring to the ring from her four-year marriage to Damon Thomas.
Her second engagement ring, which Humphries proposed with, was an 18-karat emerald-cut diamond from Lorraine Schwartz. However, Kim revealed that Humphries only covered 20% of the ring’s $2 million price tag, leaving her to pay the remaining 80%. To make matters more complicated, she had to return the ring after their divorce.
The 20.5-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond ring, which was estimated to be worth a staggering $2 million at the time of their engagement in 2011, became a symbol of their whirlwind romance. This surprising detail sheds new light on the dynamics of their relationship, which lasted just 72 days before Kardashian filed for divorce.
“I ended up having to pay for 80% of my ring,” Kardashian revealed during the episode. “And then when we got divorced, he asked for it back. So, I gave it back.”

The revelation has sparked mixed reactions from fans and critics alike. Some have criticized Humphries for what they perceive as a lack of generosity, while others have questioned why Kardashian, who was already a wealthy public figure at the time, would agree to such an arrangement. The ring, which was custom-designed by celebrity jeweler Lorraine Schwartz, was a showstopper, but it seems its financial burden fell largely on Kardashian.
Kardashian and Humphries’ relationship was highly publicized, from their fairytale-like engagement to their dramatic split just months after their lavish wedding. The divorce proceedings dragged on for years, with Humphries initially contesting the split and accusing Kardashian of using their marriage for publicity. However, the two eventually reached a settlement in 2013, and Kardashian moved on with rapper Kanye West, with whom she shares four children.

Back In 2021, Kim Kardashian opened up about feeling pressured to go through with her 2011 wedding to Kris Humphries, as the event was set to be filmed for Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
Reflecting on the situation, she admitted, “I thought, ‘Okay, we’re filming this for a TV show. If I leave, I’m going to be known as the runaway bride forever and it’s going to be a huge joke, and I think I just have cold feet.’ So I was like, ‘Okay guys, it’s just cold feet, I got this, it’s cold feet, we’re filming the show.’”
Looking back, Kim acknowledged that she handled their breakup poorly and even expressed regret over how she treated Humphries. “I was so nervous to break up with someone, I handled it totally the wrong way. I fully broke up with him in the worst way, and I couldn’t… I just didn’t know how to deal. I learned so much from it,” she added.
Kim’s candid reflections highlight the challenges of navigating personal relationships under the spotlight, as well as the lessons she’s taken from her past experiences. Her honesty about the pressures she faced and her regrets offers a deeper understanding of the complexities behind her highly publicized marriage and divorce.
As for the ring’s current whereabouts, it remains unclear. After returning it to Humphries, Kardashian has not disclosed what happened to the massive diamond. Meanwhile, Humphries, who has largely stayed out of the spotlight since their divorce, has yet to comment on Kardashian’s claims.
