The Apalachee high school shooting that took place on September 4 2024 left two students and two teachers dead. Mason Schermerhorn, 14 student, Christian Angulo, 14 student, Richard Aspinwall, teacher, and Christina Irimie, teacher lost their lives at the hands of a 14 year old Colt Gray who court documents said will be prosecuted as an adult. The 14 year old student opened fire at his Georgia high school on Wednesday, killing two students and two teachers before surrendering to school resource officers. The tragedy was exacerbated as it now appearing that the mother had warned the school about her son’s state of mind but her warnings were largely ignored.
According to information from Fox news and Washington post, the mother of the suspected Apalachee High school gunman told family members that she had called the school in the morning of the shooting and warned a counselor about an “extreme emergency” involving her 14 year old son.

The mother of the 14 year old suspect Marcee Gray was arrested last year in a family violence charges, court records show and she pleaded guilty in December to second-degree criminal damage of property and criminal trespass family violence, Barrow county records show. According to NBCNews Marcee Gray also had warrants out for her arrest stemming from a November 2023 incidents in which drugs, including methamphetamine and fentanyl, were found in her car. Verified accounts and call logs by the Washington post shows a 10-minute call from the mother’s phone to the school starting at 9:50 p.m which is about a half-hour before witnesses said the gunman opened fire.
“I was the one that notified the school counselor at the high school,” Marcee Gray texted her sister following the shooting on Sept. 4, according to a screenshot of the exchange. “I told them it was an extreme emergency and for them to go immediately and find [my son] to check on him.”
The phone log, texts, and interviews provide the strongest indications yet that officials at Apalachee high were alerted to concerns about the suspect on the morning of the shooting and may have been looking for him in the minutes before he allegedly killed four people and injured nine with an AR-15 style rifle.

Reliable information reaching our news desk indicate that Colt Gray’s father, Colin Gray, allowed his son to possess a weapon. The 54 year old bought his son an AR-15 rifle as a gift according to two law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation. Both Father and son appeared in court for the first time on Friday. His father faces 14 charges including involuntary manslaughter, second-degree murder and cruelty to children and if convicted on all charges he could face up to 180 years in prison. In the shooting incident, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo both 14, Math teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39 and Cristina Irimie, 53 were killed.
Marcee Gray had Previously Threatened her Ex-Husband Colin Gray
According to an X post by Kacee Allen, Marcee Gray, the mother of Colt Gray, who is accused of the Georgia school shooting, had previously threatened to kill her estranged husband. She also shared disturbing posts on social media regarding their difficult relationship. Colt, aged 14, has been charged with four counts of felony murder. Additionally, his father has been charged with several offenses related to supplying the firearm used in the incident.
