Tiger Woods will not compete in the upcoming Masters Tournament after a recent car crash and DUI arrest, choosing instead to step away from golf to focus on his health and recovery.
According to reports from People, the 50-year-old golf legend made the decision following the incident on March 27, when he was involved in a rollover crash in Jupiter Island, Florida. Authorities who responded to the scene observed signs of impairment, including bloodshot and glassy eyes and extremely dilated pupils. A probable cause affidavit also stated that deputies found two hydrocodone pills in Woods’ pocket at the time of the accident.
Woods reportedly told authorities that he had taken medication earlier that day due to his ongoing medical issues. Over the years, he has undergone seven back surgeries and more than 20 procedures on his leg, which have required continuous treatment and recovery. Deputies also noted that he appeared to have difficulty walking and showed signs of a leg injury at the scene.

In a statement shared publicly, Woods acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and confirmed that he would be stepping away from the sport for a period of time. He stated that he intends to seek treatment and focus on his well-being, emphasizing that the decision is necessary for his long-term recovery. He added that he is committed to returning in a healthier and stronger state, both personally and professionally.
Organizers of the Masters also confirmed his absence. Fred Ridley, chairman of Augusta National Golf Club, expressed full support for Woods, stating that while he will not be present at the tournament, his presence will still be felt at Augusta.
The news comes shortly after Woods’ return to competitive golf. Just days before the incident, he played in the TGL finals on March 24, marking his first competition since June 2024. His return followed a ruptured Achilles injury, adding to a long list of physical setbacks he has faced throughout his career.
Despite his determination to continue playing, Woods had recently admitted that recovery has become more difficult with age and repeated injuries. He had expressed a strong desire to compete in the Masters, a tournament he has won five times and one that holds deep personal meaning for him and his family. However, his participation had already been uncertain due to his physical condition.
This latest development marks another setback in Woods’ career, which has been shaped by both extraordinary success and ongoing personal and physical challenges. For now, his focus remains on seeking treatment and regaining his health, putting his return to professional golf on hold.
