''.....we had a pretty scary setback...''Mary Lou Retton Health Update From Daughter

Mary Lou Retton, former Olympic gymnast was hospitalized earlier in October with a rare form of pneumonia.

On October 14, 2023, Mary Lou Retton's Daughters, Shayla and McKenna shared an "uplifting update" on Mary Lou Retton's health. In a joint statement on Instagram, they stated that though their mother, Mary Lou Retton, is still in the ICU, her path to recovery is steadily unfolding, and her fighting spirit is shining. They also mentioned that her breathing was getting more robust, and her reliance on machines was diminishing. They also expressed their gratitude for the love and support.

 

In the latest update, In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the Star's eldest daughter Shayla Kelly Schrepfer said that Mary Lou Retton has suffered a "scary setback" this week and now remains in the ICU fighting for her life. She presented the sad update in a video posted on her social media. She also added that Retton had been doing better before this scary setback.

"Basically, at the beginning of this week, we went on the up-and-up. We were so excited. We were seeing so much progress. And then yesterday, we had a pretty scary setback. She is still in ICU." Shayla said.

 

Again, she expressed her gratitude for the massive support in prayers and finances. Retton's Daughters created a Spotfund on her behalf after revealing their mother's illness earlier this month and appealed for financial help since Retton didn't have medical insurance.

"Thank you guys again for just the support," she said. "I'm getting so many messages and emails, and it's just so great to see people love on her."

So far, over 8,000 donors have given $450,000.
