Christopher Leahy is a 31-year-old man accused in the fatal stabbing of a University of Washington student in Seattle. The case gained major public attention after police announced that Leahy turned himself in several days after the deadly attack.
According to FOX 13 Seattle, Seattle police said Leahy surrendered to Bellevue police late on May 14, 2026. After turning himself in, he was interviewed by homicide detectives before being booked into the King County Jail for investigation of murder.
Authorities also said Leahy reportedly has a history of personal “crises.” Police stated that family members encouraged him to surrender to authorities.
The Stabbing Allegation
The stabbing allegedly took place on May 10, 2026, inside the laundry room of the Nordheim Court Apartments, an off-campus housing complex connected to the University of Washington in Seattle.
The victim was identified as a 19-year-old transgender University of Washington student. Investigators said the student suffered fatal stab wounds during the attack, which left the campus community shocked and grieving.

Police released surveillance images before the arrest in hopes of identifying the suspect. According to investigators, the man seen in the footage was described as a light-skinned Black male with a thin build and a goatee. He was reportedly wearing a dark blue zip-up shirt with a white emblem and a white collared shirt underneath.
At the moment, investigators have not publicly revealed a motive for the killing. It also remains unclear whether the suspect and victim knew each other before the attack.
Community Reaction and Investigation
The case created fear and anxiety among many students living near the apartment complex. Community members gathered outside the building to leave flowers and memorials for the victim as police searched for the suspect.
According to FOX 13 Seattle, University of Washington student Pierce Wallbaum said, “Obviously there’s a lot of fear being in and around campus. The chance of coming together as a community is something we are really in need of right now.”
The Seattle Police Department continues to investigate the case. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage, witness accounts, and forensic evidence as prosecutors consider possible formal charges.
So far, authorities have emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing, and more details could emerge in the coming weeks.
